Hey guys, I wanted to take the time to explain the RAWR program here, because it is something that ABSOLUTELY will help you to gear, gem, and enchant properly, and will ABSOLUTELY increase your dps as a result.
The program can be downloaded here:
http://www.codeplex.com/Rawr
The program was originally designed by Druid and Mage programmers, and works best for those classes, but is also designed for ProtWarriors, Trees, Hunters, Tankadins, HealingPriests, ShadowPriests, EnhShams, and DPS & Tank Death Knights.
I often hear people say “I don’t like the program, it’s not accurate”. If you are a mage or a druid and you say this, you simply do not know how to use the program. Period. I cannot vouch for other classes, but I would imagine it’s the same.
What the program does:
1. Lets you see what a single point change in your spec will do to affect your dps.
2. Lets you see what the proper combination of gear is to get the exact right hit cap.
3. Lets you see what enchantments, gear, gems, and self buffs, and food buffs are the most beneficial.
4. Takes into consideration set bonuses,
5. Determines the best combination for proper hit cap, with no wasted hit cap, unless it is necessary.
6. Lets you see what piece a single piece of gear is really worth in terms of dps increase and if it is worth spending GP on.
7. Provides a list of what gear you really want, and what you don’t.
8. Lets you determine all of the above depending on boss level and fight time length.
Why you want it:
Lets not kid ourselves. Nobody sits down and calculates mathematically what gear they need. They have done the entire math for you. Most importantly, often you get a piece of gear that seems better than what you have, so you sell your assumed lower valued item to the vendor. DON’T vendor items from Naxx or higher simply because on first sight they don’t seem to have value any more. USUALLY, ITEMS COMBINE IN WAYS THAT YOU NEVER EXPECTED TO GIVE YOU THE BEST RESULT.
Download it, unzip it, and fire it up. Don't be intimidated by all the stuff you see.
Go to file, download character from Armory, and download your character with its current gear.
The first thing you see is all of your current gear, and a set of theoretical stats based on how you are currently set up. Tab through all the menus to see whats there. On the right side, is a list of possible gear items listed in terms of dps value. This list is based on what you are currently wearing. It is not based on the overall dps value.
This program does a lot of things, but I’m going to explain the most important part of it. It is called the OPTIMIZER. The optimizer is what chooses the best combination of gear depending on the other factors you set (boss level, fight length, talent points, glyphs, buffs, etc).
How to use OPTIMIZER:
1. On the right side, in the individual gear lists, mark pieces of gear that you own and have in your inventory by clicking on the green diamond. Mark every piece of gear, every gem, and every enchant that is available to you. (Different depending on your professions. Tailors, Jewelcrafters, Enchanters all have different enchants available to them).
2. On the tools menu, choose Optimize.
3. Set the settings on the new window and click on optimize.
4. Rawr calculates a new gear, gem, and enchant setup and tells you how it will change your overall dps.
